Chevrolet Corvettes Are Overrated in this year

The modern Corvette is an interesting car. Definitely cool by any standards and fast by most, but is it overrated?

My personal opinion: yes. And here’s why.

The Corvette is one of America’s automobile icons and has been since its creation in 1953 but now days it seems to me that it’s just a shell of what it once was. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a fast, good looking car; however, I get the feeling like Chevrolet is losing their creativity when it comes to the Corvettes. They all look the same now (admittedly, it is good that they are trying to keep the car the same) and have lost originality when compared to other vehicles. Corvette’s used to be the kind of car that everyone stared at when it rolled down the street. ‘Vette’s always had the nicest features and coolest layout, but now they are just part of the GM (Government Motors) cookie cutter design that all it’s vehicles feature. Gone are the sweet interiors and special motors. The only true special motor in the Corvette is the ZR1 but even that is not as revolutionary as it could have been.

It’s sad to see such a legend fall from its former glory. Now Corvette’s are being pitted against cars like the Nissan GT-R – a car that in the past never would have been allowed near a Corvette. Unfortunately, America has lost it’s edge on automobile construction and the vehicles show it. Hopefully with all the new promises and such from the Big 3 we will start to see improvement and more originality in our vehicles that previously defined American cars and showed imports who’s boss. But, I wouldn’t hold my breath. There are too many restrictions on cars and more coming. The Government (via CAFE standards) seem to think that America needs to adopt China’s way of riding bicycles from place to place (note that China has largely moved to normal vehicles).

We’ll see what happens.
